Man Charged with String of Indecent Exposure Incidents

Police: Man had been exposing himself to women since April.

A 31-year-old man is facing 16 criminal counts related to a string of indecent exposure charges in Charleston and in Mount Pleasant, according to police.

Officers arrested Keith Preston Crum around 3 p.m. Monday after a woman reported that a man had exposed himself to her as she waited at a bus stop near Bowman Road in Mount Pleasant, according to Mount Pleasant Police Maj. Stan Gragg.

The woman was able to relay the suspect's tag number, and officers tracked his vehicle to just a few blocks away on Shelmore Drive where they placed him under arrest.

The incident at the bust stop is similar to a string of indecent exposure cases reported across the two municipalities recently, police said. Officers released a sketch of the suspect in May 2013, and officers say they first received reports of indecent exposure in April 2013.

In June, two females reported encountering a man who exposed his genitalia while they were exercising on different Mount Pleasant walking trails. One woman alleged the suspect attacked her and tried to pull down her pants, police said at the time. Read more about those incidents.

Crum is being charged by Mount Pleasant Police with 10 counts of indecent exposure and two counts of first degree assault, according to reports.

Charleston Police are charging Crum with three counts of indecent exposure and one count of third degree criminal sexual conduct, according to police.

The suspect faces a bond hearing at 2 p.m. today.

"Both agencies would like to express our extreme gratitude for the willingness and courage of the witness to come forward and provide the necessary information which led to the identification and subsequent arrest of Crum who had plagued both jurisdictions since April," said Gragg on behalf of both agencies.
