Masked Man Attempts Attack on Woman

Police are searching for a man who they believe attempted to assault a girl on a running trail near Salty Tide Cove.

Police responded to the area around 9 a.m. Friday upon reports of a screaming woman, according to Police Maj. Stan Gragg. The woman told officers she was running in the area of the entrance of Etiwan Pointe when a subject approached her from behind and attempted to pull down her skort, police said.

The victim kicked the suspect who immediately fled the area, Gragg said. The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male wearing black low top shoes, a plain gray t-shirt, gray long shorts with blue gloves on his hands and an ACE bandage wrapped around his head covering his face.

He is further described as being approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall with a stocky build and broad shoulders, according to police.

The Friday incident follows an encounter with a masked man near Adluh and Pocahontas streets in Mount Pleasant, roughly 6 miles from the scene of Friday's attempted assault, according to police incident reports.

On Wednesday, a young girl on her morning jog was being followed by a man, approximately 30 years old, wearing a dark-colored mask, according to a report. The man passed the girl on her jog and then turned and exposed his genitalia, according to the the report.

The young girl fled the scene and called police, but officers could not locate the man. Like the Friday suspect, the man was wearing gray shorts and had his face covered.
