After serving as President of the College Democrats at Charleston Southern University, Tyler earned his first political job after college working on Senator John Edwards' 2008 Presidential campaign, serving as Lowcountry Field Director in South Carolina. He went on to work on the campaigns of congressional candidate Linda Ketner and US Senate candidate Chad McGowan. He has also managed the campaigns of local state house candidates such as Rep. Leon Stavrinakis and former Rep. Anne Peterson Hutto. At 23, he was the youngest to ever serve as Executive Director of the South Carolina House Democratic Caucus. Most recently, Tyler co-founded the progressive organization South Carolina Forward Progress. He has been a delegate from Charleston to the State Democratic Convention, and has been active in the Charleston County Democratic Party for years. He is a die-hard fan of the Chicago Cubs, Atlanta Falcons, and the University of North Carolina Tar Heels. He currently makes his home in Mount Pleasant.

Politics:Tyler is a lifelong Democrat. His parents still tell people he's doing mission work in South Carolina. However, he prides himself on being a pragmatic person. He believes nothing can be accomplished unless the two parties work together. He also believe the Tea Party is a threat to sanity in government.

Religion:Growing up Tyler always considered himself to be a southern baptist. However, upon moving to a Southern Baptist college in South Carolina, he realized there was a big difference between "southern baptists" and "baptists in the south." Today, Tyler's Christian beliefs are more aligned with Matthew 25 ("whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me") than anything that comes out of the mouths of Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, or James Dobson.

Local Host Button Issues:Mount Pleasant has grown at lightning fast speed over the last ten years. Tyler believes we must balance the growth of our community, while preserving the small-town atmosphere. Protecting our public schools, improving public transportation, and keeping taxes low are critical to the long term success of Mount Pleasant.
