Identification concludes two-week search for Olutosin "Tosin" Oyelowo.
The Charleston County Coroner confirms that a female body discovered Wednesday afternoon on Sullivan's Island is that of missing MUSC resident Olutosin "Tosin" Oyelowo. Police had reported that Oyelowo, 25, was seen jumping from the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge on Dec. 9. Charleston Police are now in recovery mode.
For the first time since a woman reportedly jumped off of the Ravenel Bridge on Dec. 9, Charleston Police have identified the woman. Police reports from Mount Pleasant Police last week identified the woman as Tosin Oyelowo, a MUSC student who was reported missing on Dec. 9, leading to speculation of her whereabouts across the Internet. Here is a statement released today by spokesman Charles Francis: We have eyewitnesses who have positively identified Tosin Oyelowo as the woman who jumped off the Ravenel Bridge. Two reports name victim, but Internet sites question jumper's fate.
Incident reports from two police agencies regarding last week's Ravenel Bridge jumping incident name a MUSC pharmacy resident as the apparent victim, but Internet sites and social networking posts are fueling speculation about the fate of Olutosin "Tosin" Oyelowo. Mount Pleasant police and Charleston police, the two agencies that responded first to the bridge around 3:30 p.m. Friday, list the 25-year-old woman as the apparent victim, but after a week of searching police have not located any remains. Charleston Police are investigating the Friday afternoon incident.
A woman jumped from the northbound side of the Ravenel Bridge this afternoon, and Charleston Police are investigating. The woman jumped from Highway 17 into the river at approximately 3:41 p.m., according to spokesman Charles Francis with the Charleston Police Department. Mount Pleasant closed the pier at Waterfront Park just before 5 p.m. as four boats searched the water.
