This article states: "The lawsuit states that the town, the school system, the sheriff and ParkRead More West had known for some time about the problems at the intersection. Unlike other crossings, this intersection did not have a crossing guard or other signage at the time of Rogge's accident." If this statement is correct, why didn't the parent escort her daughter across the street instead of waiting at the opposite corner?

My thoughts exactly!!!

You're cherry picking this one statement and trying to imply that a kid getting hit in a crosswalkRead More after school where a car is already stopped and waiting for her is the parents fault. That's terrible. I hope this new breed of anti society extremist libertarians dies off quickly or moves away from or to the middle of the country.

These "cot damb" students today!!! Of course they let her back in - they're all racistRead More "crackers" with the exception of a few. This IS SC where a tad more than half the voting populace elected that cheating turd. Why am I not surprised by the ineffectual actions of the Charleston County Schoolboard? What a STUPID girl.
SickandTired May 14, 2013 at 02:20 pm
"Crackers" ?? Sorry, but I don't see much difference between you and her frankly. GetRead More the black youth to stop using the "N" word so profusely first, then we'll talk about enforcing a ban on the word. But not until...double standards suck.

I think if your going to enforce a rule, be consistent. I worked in a middle school and could hearRead More the word numerous times an hour. Get in touch with the times. As hard as it is for me to swallow that pill, I know it is in the vocabulary of most young people now. You have to draw a line somewhere, but be consistent doing it. I have seen this same school district with kids that have assaulted other students, brought knives to school and had drugs, but did not get the punishment this did originally. Bring in ANY one of those teachers and ask them how many times a day do they hear the "N" word. Because the answer would probably lead some of the disconnected school board members to call for a total change in the way they are doing things. As if they can fix society and it's problems. Well, why they are at it, fix the pants that are hanging around students butts, see if you can get children interested in reading and not the streets. But to think you will take some girl and for one moment, hold her accountable for a word that she used OFF CAMPUS, that did NOT interrupt instruction, that most kids on that campus use EVERY day.......Can you say CIVIL RIGHTS LAWSUIT? Because that is what you just did. You know why it was reversed so fast? Because their lawyer probably told them, back out now, before any more "damages" are done (ie..Prom, Grad). Because the law was NOT fairly and equally applied.

According to the link Wando is ranked 16th in the state. Interesting to note that Academic MagnetRead More had 7% economically disadvantaged students, where many of the other schools that I looked at on the list including Wando had at least double that.

Art is wonderful ! However, traditional overnight camps teach kids more than just hard skills theyRead More teach children how to get along with others, how to make decisions and build confidence in trying new things. A great place for this is Swift Nature Camp http://www.swiftnaturecamp.com

It would have not stopped Newtown but it would make it more restrictive for nuts like the one thatRead More killed 20 six year olds to have access to weapons of war. A better move would be to restrict clip size to ten rounds each but Lindsey and his Republican boys did exactly what the NRA told them to do. It is time to elect representation that works in our best interest. Graham and Scott are working for the special interests and not in our best interest

There is still such a thing as doctor/patient confidentially in this country, so how will it ever beRead More legal to put mentally ill people on a national list for background checks? Attorneys and their clients have the same privacy rule. Just because it seems a good idea, how is it going to be enforced without a lot of states changing their laws so that a doctor can put a patient on a national registry? It is up to the person, not the doctor to break the privacy rules and if the person is mentally incompetent, they cannot legally make that decision now can they.

re: how will it ever be legal to put mentally ill people on a national list for background checks?Read More as pointed out here several times...mentally ill as applied to gun control is a court order (adjudicated)... these orders/findings are public records... tho; easy to understand how this point could be missed. the NRA has put out so much bs...eg; NRA four premises: 1. 2nd amendment violation; 2. WMD needed for hunting; 3. WMD needed to defend against home invasion; 4. WMD needed to defend america against an attack by the USA are utter illogical crap difficult to understand how any sane person could buy this bs....perhaps a sane person who bought it, can splain it? but based on folks acceptance of the NRA propaganda...it becomes easier to understand how hitler convinced intelligent german folks to murder 6M jews.

Who cares? It's just college football! And have you noticed how many die hard Cock Fans NEVER evenRead More attended the university or any university for that matter but go all out batshitcrazy over SC football? My theory is that it's any excuse for the dimwitted to get drunk and act all righteously stupid.

Whether it is the law or not, a strike is completely unacceptable and anyone who does not report toRead More work if there should be a strike should not be allowed to report to work again. You fire their yadas and get over this insult to the children. Anyone who can strike is telling you that they do not give a rat's behind about your children--only about their 4 hours take home pay. The school system should investigate and also demand that Durham provide them with information concerning competitive rates for bus drivers in SC to determine whether these drivers have legitimate complaints that should be addressed, but a strike is unacceptable.

Have you actually seen how these drivers drive these buses? Most of the time they're passing me on Hwy. 17. I also have actually seen them racing!! It's insane and obvious they have no concerns for the children involved. The school system should investigate and also demand that Durham provide them with information concerning competitive rates for bus drivers in SC to determine whether these drivers have legitimate complaints that should be addressed, but a strike is unacceptable and sick!!

Allowing teachers to carry weapons? Armed police in every school? Or is the answer as simple asRead More doors that lock automatically? Share your thoughts here.

Typical-tragedies at schools keep occuring with ever increasing regularity across our country andRead More our local school district officials are still dithering around about how to increase school security. Mayor Keith Summey deserves kudos for placing armed police officers in the elementary schools in his city right away. Let's get the officers in the schools and then discuss the details-that way our kids are given an extra measure of security from those with malicious intent and from dithering school officials.
