Classes Abound at Senior Center

Affordable classes offered throughout the month.

The following programs and classes are scheduled at the Mount Pleasant Senior Center, 840 Von Kolnitz Road. Call 856-2166.

Hours are 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday. Memberships are available to those 50 and over, $100 for Charleston County residents, $200 for nonresidents. Class fees are indicated for members. An additional $5 guest fee is required for nonmembers who are Charleston County residents, $8 guest fee for nonresidents.

MEDITATION:
Guided practice that teaches easy, accessible methods to strengthen attention, increase clarity, and bring inner peace. Mondays, 9 – 9:50 a.m.

LUNCH BUNCH:
Senior Center members share a meal together on the first and third Tuesday of every month at various restaurants. Noon. Call for locations.

MINI MASSAGES:
Experience a brief but wonderful “mini massage” session by a licensed massage therapist. Thursdays, 12 p.m. – 1 p.m.

MAH JONGG:
Come to either play or learn this ancient Chinese tile game of strategy and luck. Beginners welcome. Thursdays, 10 a.m. – 12 noon.

OPEN CRIBBAGE:
Come meet others who play cribbage. For beginners or experienced players. Mondays & Tuesdays, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

EUCHRE:
Play or learn this four-player card game that was once the national card game of the U.S. Fridays, 1 – 3 p.m.

YIN YOGA
Yin yoga goes deeper and stretches the joints & connective tissues of the body through long, meditative holds. Monday – Fridays, 8:15 - 8:55 a.m.

YOGA:
Tone your body and improve your health while relaxing your mind. Yoga tones the entire body, enhances balance, and improves flexibility. Tuesdays, 10–11 a.m. & 1–2 p.m.;

Wednesdays, 4:30–5:30 p.m., Thursdays, 2–3 p.m., and Fridays, 10-10:50 a.m. $5 per class.

YOGA WORKSHOP: BALANCING HOLISTICALLY IN THE YOGA TRADITION
We will explore balancing in the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual realms as they relate to yoga tradition & practices. 8/23, 3 – 4:50 p.m. $10 for session.

PILATES MAT:
Come practice this total body conditioning exercise method combining strength and flexibility. Thursdays, 1-2 p.m. $5 per class.

BARRE FITNESS:
Join us for an invigorating regime of ballet, strength, and flexibility training; using a chair and light weights. Thursdays, 10 – 11 a.m. $5 per class.

ACRYLIC PAINTING
Painting from still life and photo references, Beginner or amateur artists welcome. Thursdays, 9 - 10:50 a.m., 8/2, 8/9, 8/16, & 8/23. $5 per class.

TAP DANCE, BEGINNER:
Learn the basics of tap and work your way up to simple routines. Tuesdays, 11-11:50 a.m. $5 per class.

TAP DANCE, INTERMEDIATE:
For those with some tap experiences. Thursdays, 12 noon-12:50 p.m. $5 per class.
