Wando Girls Soccer Makes It Three Out of Four State Titles

Warriors relentless pressure too much for JL Mann.

There’s a reason why the Wando girls soccer team is one of the premier programs in the state and why, after beating JL Mann 2-0 on Saturday, it has won three of the last four state titles.

Despite spending the overwhelming majority of the game in Mann’s end of the field, Wando led only 1-0 midway through the second half. The goal came in the first five minutes from the foot of Rachel Torlay.

But the Warriors persisted with their attack. They finally saw the fruits of their labor when senior Hannah Ross deftly slipped a shot past JL Mann’s goalie in the 61st minute to make it 2-0 and put the game out of reach.

The relentless pressure from Wando easily could have amounted to more goals. A spectacular shot from Raymara Barreto a few minutes prior to Ross’ goal was denied due to an offsides call.

The win was Wando’s 89th in its last 93 matches. They finish the year 20-1-1.
