Five simple steps, including taking a break every day, can fuel better fitness.

If you find yourself lacking energy, there are simple steps you can take boost your productivity and fuel your quest for fitness, according to Mount Pleasant personal trainer Brian Durbin.

Drink more water: Caffeine and alcohol can cause dehydration. The old adage that you should drink 8 glasses of water is still true, Durbin says.

Start your day with something you like: Fuel your brain like you do your body, and start your morning with some activity that you enjoy.

Sleep more: If you're one of those people who thinks you can get by on 4 or 5 hours of sleep per night, you're wrong. Your body needs to recharge for at least 7 hours each night, Durbin says. Try setting an alarm to remind yourself to go to bed.

Exercise daily: Even if it's just walking your dog for 30 minutes a day, you need to be active in some way every day.

Meditate: Every day, you should set aside quiet time. Even if you don't know how to meditate by mystical standards, simply being alone and focusing on breathing will help.
