Local Slugger Loses Home Run Derby Title

Daniel Aldrich cedes national title to Fresno State's Aaron Judge.

Mount Pleasant native and College of Charleston rising junior Daniel Aldrich could not defend his title in the 2012 TD Ameritrade Home Run Derby, failing to hit a home run in the first round of the competition in TD Ameritrade Park, home of the College World Series.

Aldrich entered the event as the defending title-holder after hitting 14 home runs in last year’s Derby, including four in the final round to defeat Georgia Southern’s Victor Roache.

Fresno State’s Aaron Judge went on to win this year’s Home Run Derby with eight home runs in the final round, knocking off Virginia Tech’s Tyler Horan and LSU’s Mason Katz.
