Carrier Classic Tips off Today

Games will air live on NBC sports between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The 2012 Carrier Classic has transformed the USS YORKTOWN into a 4,500-seat NCAA-regulation basketball court in Charleston Harbor.

The tournament will feature Notre Dame vs. Ohio State in women's game at 4 p.m. and Marquette vs. Ohio State in a men's game at 6 p.m. The tournament will air on NBC Sports.

Want to watch the carrier classic? If you have Comcast, it's on channel 56 or channel 448 in Charleston. For AT&T U-verse, the game will appear on channel 640 or 1640. For Knology subscribers, it will air on channel 163 or 992. For satellite subscribers, see the various channels.

The Marine Corps Classic will air just after the men's game. Florida will take on Georgetown aboard the USS Bataan in Jacksonville, Fla. in that game.

The Goodyear Blimp is in town to provide aerial shots of Charleston, Mount Pleasant, the beaches and the game. The public will get a glimpse of the blimp during afternoon commutes as it films the afternoon game.

Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will be closed to the public for day visitation today.

“We appreciate the public’s patience,” said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette.  “Although the closures are not ideal for our visitors, they will allow production teams to complete preparations for the nationally-televised event.”

Patriots Point To Offer Free Admission for veterans and families on Monday. In honor of Veterans Day and those who have served as members of our armed forces, Patriots Point will offer free admission for all veterans and their families all day on Monday, November 12. A $5 per vehicle parking fee will still apply.

“We are grateful for the patriotism and courage shown by the servicemen and women who have served our nation throughout its history,” said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette. “This is our way of saying thanks – not only to those who served; but to the families who supported them as well.”
