Auction to Benefit Wando Theatre Group

Theatre ensemble heading to regional competition after second-place state finish.

For the second straight year, the Wando High School Honors Theatre Ensemble has qualified to perform at the Southeastern Theatre Convention.

The group placed second earlier this month at the state competition with Radium Girls, a one-act play based on a true story of young women in wartime manufacturing who worked with radium before anyone understood the danger of direct contact with the material.

The ensemble, along with Byrnes High School in Spartanburg, will represent South Carolina in March at SETC in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

“This is a huge accomplishment for the students and for Wando’s Theatre program. Only two schools qualify from each of ten states to compete each year, and to be selected consecutive years is very unusual,” said Lori Carroll, Wando director.

To raise the estimated cost of $16,000 needed to fund the trip, Wando High School Theatre Boosters will be holding an online auction. With the click of a mouse, one can buy holiday gifts while supporting Wando High School theatre students. Close to 30 items in all price ranges will be auctioned off, including:
