New Signage Appears on Hwy. 17

Carolina Park constructs new signage as part of massive development.

"Carolina Park submitted a request in early 2012 to amend their Planned Development to allow for this particular type signage," said Christiane Farrell, the town's planning director.

"What is being constructed complies with that amendment. We have not really received feedback so much as questions as to what is being built."

On Facebook, Patch readers thought the structures were small "matchstick" homes rather than signage. Eventually Carolina Park plans to place logos for tenants that plan to locate inside the development.

One mock-up submitted to the town during the approval process showed Starbucks and Target store logos on the signs as example of how they might be used.
