Town Hands Over 911 Call Center

Consolidates 911 center handling emergency calls for multiple jurisdictions.

The Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch Center began all telecommunications operations for Mount Pleasant Police and Fire Department starting Wednesday morning.

In the event of an emergency, residents should continue to call 911, but the calls will be handled in one central location for multiple police jurisdictions. The operation is meant to streamline services and save operating costs.

The police department will still maintain a few 911 operators for emergency situations, such as a natural disaster, but the new consolidated dispatch center will reduce call transfers that sometimes delayed requests for help in the past.
