Linda Page to Announce Mayoral Bid

Mayoral race set for November 2013.

Town Councilwoman Linda Page will announce her candidacy for mayor during a Thursday event at her business in Mount Pleasant.

On the council since 2009, Page said she hopes to be the sort of mayor that fosters community involvement.

"In the years I have served on council I have learned that community engagement leads to a great town," Page said in a Tuesday news release.

Her official announcement will occur at a 4 p.m. event at Page's Thieves Market at 1460 Ben Sawyer Blvd. in Mount Pleasant.

"Our town was founded by self reliant, hard working citizens who took pride in developing this historic community," she said. "While we are are not the sleepy fishing village of 1959 that my parents chose as their home we are still a charming place to live.I will strive to respect the past as we move forward into the future.”

Page is the owner of Page's Thieves Market on Chuck Dawley Blvd. She joins one other declared candidate in the race to replace Mayor Billy Swails, who has opted not to seek a second term as mayor.

Former Councilman Joe Bustos has already declared his intentions to run. Qualification for the race opens Aug. 15 and closes Aug. 26. The town will vote on four council seats and the mayor's office in November 2013.

Page's decision to run means she can't also run for re-election on the council.
