County Activating Election Hotline

Questions, concerns may be phoned in starting Friday.

The Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration (BEVR) Board of Elections/Voter Registration (BEVR) Office is pleased to announce an increase in staffing on its regular phone line in order to enhance the efficiency of answering questions relating to the 2012 election.

The office’s (843) 744-8683 phone line will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from Oct. 22 through Nov. 6. Calls will be forwarded to a phone bank that can handle multiple lines at one time.

“This is a small office, so normally we are unable to handle the number of calls that come in leading up to and during an election,” said Joseph Debney, BEVR’s Executive Director. “We are ecstatic to be able to offer an increased level of availability to our citizens and help with any election related questions they may have this year.”

The BEVR office will provide information to help phone operators answer the most frequently asked questions, and a BEVR staff member will be present to answer any difficult questions. County employees will make up a large number of the phone operators.

“I’d like to thank County Administrator Kurt Taylor for allowing his staff the time to assist with this important effort,” Debney said. “We are all a team here at Charleston County.”
