Congressman Wants Citadel, Penn State Hearings

Ranking House Education Committee member wants probe into whether new laws could force sex-abuse reporting.

In the wake of sex-abuse scandals, and revelations that top administrators at both Penn State and the Citadel sat on sex-abuse allegations, a congressman is asking for a federal probe of the situation, according to the AP.

The top Democrat on the House education committee is calling for a hearing on the sex abuse scandals at Penn State and The Citadel.

Rep. George Miller, a California Democrat, told Committee Chairman John Kline that the hearing should look at whether changes are needed in federal laws designed to protect children and students, the AP reports.

On Monday, acknowledged the public military college should have in 2007 reported allegations of sex abuse against a former cadet. That graduate, Louis "Skip" ReVille, was in October charged with multiple counts of child sex abuse relating to other victims.
