Police Reports: Woman Walks in on Burglar

Reports: Woman finds neighbor burglarizing home; Man assaulted following prostitution call; Gun found at community pool.

A York Street woman came face-to-face with an alleged burglar recently, and police made an arrest of the suspect within a matter of hours, according to reports.

The woman told police she was at work in her home office when she heard doors open and close in her home, according to reports. She stepped out into her kitchen and saw the alleged intruder. She chased the man away and noticed he ran directly into her neighbor's home.

The suspect managed to get away with a laptop computer and cell phone, among other items. Police later identified the man on a pawn shop surveillance video selling the laptop for $20, according to reports.

Police charged Devante White, 19, with the burglary. 

Man Assaulted Following Prostitution Call

A Mount Pleasant man was beaten and his home was burglarized recently after he backed out of an arranged meeting with a prostitute, according to reports.

The victim told police he arranged for the meet-up through the website Backpage.com, but when the woman arrived, he decided not to go through with the meeting.

The victim then left his Johnnie Dodds Boulevard apartment, but when he returned, he found the woman and two men inside stealing his personal items, according to the report.

The victim was assaulted by one of the men and had a bloody mouth when officers arrived, according to the report. The victim couldn't provide suspect information, aside from the alleged prostitute's listing on Backpage.com.

Mom Finds Gun at Dunes West Pool

A child a the Dunes West community swimming pool pointed out a "toy gun" to his mother recently. The mom picked up the pistol, and fired it to see if it was a indeed a toy.

Turns out, the gun was very real, but the errant gun shot went into the ground and no one was injured, according to a police incident report. Police were called and officers placed the gun into evidence for safe keeping. No charges are pending.
