this will continue to happen as long as there are people in this world that continue to bring children into it without knowing how to be a parent....poor little boy, may he rest in peace where he'll always be safe

Do they know for a fact it was the dog and not coyotes? we have them in Mt Pl. Coyotes are diminishing the white tail deer population by killing fawns. I've also heard of someone losing their cat to coyotes recently.

Lab/shep my foot! That's pit mix, just being a "good gamebred pit". Biting a dog-sized opponent, doing damage, not stopping.

Spot on Debbie Bell! All Terriers are purpose bred dogs. They have a "box" within their brains that make them do what they do best. This one probably having the "box" of the Pit Bull got turned on and the rest is history. So very sad that a child is dead because of it. So sad.

for christ sake it is not a pit mix my neighbor has a lab/Shepard mix and looks just like those dogs. My dog is a pit bull and 2 weeks ago my son was paying outside and a stray dog came into the yard and attacked my son. He had him on the ground when out of nowhere my dog busted through the window in our house and saved our son by tackling the dog off and yes he did kill the dog but he probably saved his big brother. So get off the pit bull hating. You are condemning an entire breed for the acts of a few who had no training and the owners should have been shot.

What idiots. Some people just need to believe that pitbulls will destroy the world as we know it. That is a lab mix. Anyone with half a brain can come to that conclusion. Although, the "box in the brain" is a new one for me. Never heard that one before... very creative. And please don't post your "research" from a biased website. Fact is, ALL dogs have the potential to be dangerous. It's all about ownership and responsibility or the lack there of.

Most pit mongers insist that children provoke dogs to attack and that the attacking dog was just playing. I think the dog on top of your son was only playing. Doesn't that sound nice? Your pit killed a dog for playing with your son! Is your dog neutered? With intact pits on every block, pit mixes are being produced every second. One dog our rescue took in was reported to be lab/Golden. Looked pure Golden. We did neuter and place him. So far, no problem yet. But one day we got to meet the mom dog. Lab my foot, she's mostly pit: jaws like a snapping turtle, squinty eyes, short short BRINDLE coat. (Labs do not "come in " brindle). So it our "golden" adoption grows up, matures to be a "good" pit bull and attacks, someone will see a Golden and think that is his Golden, when the part that tells the poor dog "bite for no reason, don't stop biting, tear off chunks of flesh, shake and crush while you are at it." is the invisible pit mother. Mandatory spay/neuter microchipping of all pits, pit mixes, all dog aggressive dogs. Pits are victims too. Stop making more vicitms!

So breed never matters? Behavior is all about management and training? Great! I disagree but have it your way. Enact and enforce spay/neuter microchipping of all pits, pit mixes, all dog aggressive dogs. Pits will graduallly become extinct. No pit monger should oppose this idea, as they believe the "management and training=behavior" stuff. Dog fighters know pits are different, but they shouldn't get a vote. When your pit dies of old age, you can adopt ANY dog and manage/train her to be your charming pet, right? The USA won't be killing a million surplus pits a year ($20,000 a week) because pits are not being born! Pit bull crisis solved!

Debbie Bell, you are so sad. You don't care about kids - you just are a fanatical dog fearer/hater. That dog looks to be a chow mix, lab mix, heeler mix, who knows? Its color is "seal", certainly NOT brindle. But you people who are terrified of pit bulls see what you want to see. You see pit bulls EVERYWHERE! You see BRINDLE when it is not there. What we can see is the pathetic fear and hate in your heart. Modern day witch hunters.
