Mt. Pleasant Police Major Arrested for DUI

Accident led to Georgetown arrest of second-in-command.

A top cop in the Mount Pleasant Police Department was arrested Saturday and charged with driving under the influence.

Franks L. Riccio, 51, of Mount Pleasant, was driving his  1997 Jeep just after 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, heading south on U.S. 17. Three miles south of Georgetown, Riccio allegedly ran off the left side of the road and into the median, turning the Jeep on its side, according to Cpl. Bob Beres with the S.C. Highway Patrol. 

Riccio was arrested for DUI and taken to the Georgetown County Detention Center, Beres said.

WCBD News 2 reports that Riccio was second-in-command with the police department.

Police said a bond hearing was held this morning, after which time Major Riccio was placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
