Mount Pleasant Man Charged with Hit and Run

Man fled scene of Wednesday crash.

A Mount Pleasant man who was awaiting trial for an April DUI arrest was again jailed this week after police say he fled the scene of a crash and led police on a short chase.

Michael Barber, 50, reportedly struck another vehicle at the intersection of Savannah Highway and Stocker Drive, according to the Post and Courier. Barber fled the scene, but not before bystanders wrote down his license plate information.

When police tracked Barber's SUV to a downtown location, Barber reportedly tried to evade officers but crashed his vehicle. He then led officers on a short foot chase, according to Live5News.

Barber, 50, is charged with failure to stop for blue lights, reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions and leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, according to court records.
