Coyotes Spotted on Sullivan's Island

Police warn residents about coyote spottings.

Sullivan's Island Police have issued a warning to the public about possible coyote on the island.

Here's the message posted on Sunday:

There have been several sightings of coyotes on the island recently. Please protect vulnerable pets and secure all outside food sources (pet food, open garbage). Next week Town staff will be contacting the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources to discuss guidance on handling the situation.

Coyotes are not uncommon in the area. Signs around Mount Pleasant warn residents about the animals. They are not generally regarded as aggressive unless the animal is rabid or is provoked.
