Citadel Details ReVille Allegations

Incident from 2002 involved accused molester watching pornography with summer camper.

The Citadel today released details of a 2002 incident in which Louis “Skip” ReVille, then a cadet at the public military college, was accused of viewing pornography and engaging in a sexual act with a summer camp participant.

When reported by the accuser five years later, the school did not pursue the allegations further after ReVille denied the activity, the statement reads. But now, ReVille faces a long list of criminal sex-abuse charges relating to improper contact with young boys.

The Citadel accuser told school officials “he was in the room of Mr. ReVille along with another camper. The individual stated they watched pornography on Mr. ReVille’s computer. They did not touch each other, but they engaged in sexual activity,” said Citadel President Lt. Gen. John W. Rosa and Doug Snyder, chairman of The Citadel Board of Visitors in a written statement.

The school had previously admitted there was an allegation of improper contact, but only said it was not physical in nature. As the college has stated previously, neither the school nor the family investigated the incident further. It was apparently not reported to police.

In late October, ReVille, a well-known youth sports coach and an administrator at Coastal Christian Preparatory School, was arrested and charged with multiple counts of child sex abuse stemming from a year’s worth of illicit sexual contact with three teenage boys.

“We want to make it very clear that, as soon as this information was brought to our attention, The Citadel immediately investigated the accusation,” the statement reads.

After sending the college’s attorney to meet with both the accuser and his family, as well as ReVille, the school opted not to pursue the matter further.

“Unlike his admissions to current charges, Mr. ReVille strongly denied the accusation,” the statement reads. “Mr. ReVille was a highly respected cadet whose peers elected him chairman of the Honor Court, and at graduation he was presented the award for excellence in public service.”

There have been no criminal charges from the Citadel incident, but this week Berkeley County authorities signaled they would bring charges from alleged abuse of juveniles in Hanahan.

Mr. ReVille is accused in Mount Pleasant of engaging in oral sex as well as fondling boys between the ages of 13 and 15, according to arrest warrants.
