FAMILY-FRIENDLY FLICKS

Frozen: The latest animated musical from Disney is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Snow Queen. The tales focuses on a spunky young princess who tries to find and rescue her ostracized sister, who was chased into the wilderness because of her special powers.

Free Birds: Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson and Amy Poehler lend their voices to this animated flick about two turkeys who travel back in time to 1621 in order to convince the Pilgrims that turkey should not be on their Thanksgiving menu.

FOR ACTION-ADVENTURE BUFFS

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire: In the second installment of The Hunger Games series, Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way, Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering.

OldBoy: Spike Lee’s remake of the 2003 Korean cult classic revenge flick of the same name has gotten lots of buzz. In Lee’s version, Josh Brolin plays Joe Doucett, an advertising executive and negligent father who is imprisoned in a small, mysterious room for 20 years for no apparent reason. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who’s behind his bizarre and torturous punishment.

THE PERFECT DATE NIGHT MOVIE

About Time: The Notebook fans, rejoice! Rachel McAdams has come unstuck in time—again—in a years-bridging romance from the director of Love Actually. At the age of 21, Tim discovers he can travel in time and change what happens and has happened in his own life. Naturally, he sets his sights on winning the heart of Mary, played by McAdams.

AWARDS SEASON BAIT

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom: An early Oscar contender, this film chronicles Nelson Mandela's life journey from his childhood in a rural village through to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of South Africa.

The Dallas Buyer’s Club: Matthew McConaughey portrays the true-life tale of Ron Woodroof, a homophobic, drug addicted rodeo cowboy who becomes diagnosed with AIDS in 1985 and is given 30 days to live. To survive, he smuggles anti-viral medications from all over the world, which were still unapproved and unavailable in the U.S. Other AIDS patients seek out his medications and with the help of his doctor (played by Jennifer Garner) and Rayon, a fellow patient (played by Jared Leto), Ron creates the Dallas Buyers Club, one of the dozens which form around the country to provide its paying members with alternative treatments.
