Saturday, Sunday Closures on JDB

Road project continues with nighttime closures.

Charleston County Government announces a traffic alert as part of the Johnnie Dodds Boulevard Improvements Project in Mount Pleasant. The purpose of this closure is to allow the installation of new drainage pipes underneath Johnnie Dodds Boulevard:

Sunday, Sept. 25 -nighttime, northbound road closure:

• From 11 p.m. - 6 a.m., motorists may experience minor traffic delays as crews close  northbound, Johnnie Dodds Boulevard from Houston Northcutt to Shellmore Boulevard. Traffic will be detoured at Houston Northcutt Blvd onto East Frontage Road.

• Local law enforcement officers will be on site to direct traffic at each location.

Monday, Sept. 26 nighttime, southbound road closure:

• From 11 p.m. – 6 a.m., motorist may experience minor traffic delays as crews close southbound, Johnnie Dodds Boulevard from Shellmore Boulevard to Mathis Ferry.  Traffic will be detoured at Shellmore Boulevard onto West Frontage Road.

• Local law enforcement officers will be on site to direct traffic at each location.

Drivers traveling through the construction zones are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area. The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs and message board information, and to note that all road work is dependent on the weather.

The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed in the Spring  of 2013, is to improve the traffic flow in and out of Mount Pleasant, especially before and after school and work hours. The project is funded by the Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax and managed by Charleston County Government, in close coordination with the Town of Mount Pleasant and the S.C. Department of Transportation.
