Part of Anna Knapp Closed This Week

Nighttime closure begins this evening and runs through next Monday.

Charleston County Government announces an additional road closure as part of continuing road work on the Johnnie Dodds Boulevard Improvements Project in Mount Pleasant. The road closure will affect a section of Anna Knapp Boulevard between Johnnie Dodd Blvd and West Frontage Road, from Tuesday September 20 through Monday, September 26.

  • The work is necessary for crews to install underground storm drainage pipes.
  • A detour will be in place utilizing S. Shellmore Boulevard and West Frontage Road.
  • Construction activity will occur from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
  • The work is being conducted at night in an effort to reduce impact on drivers.
  • The speed limit on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard will be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph. in the construction zone when crews are working. Temporary signs will alert the public of the speed limit reduction.
  • If the weather is poor any day during Sept. 20 – Sept. 26, the closure will continue until the work is completed.

Drivers traveling through the construction zones are asked to be aware of equipment and crews working in the area. The public is also asked to notice traffic control signs and message board information, and to note that all road work is dependent on the weather.

The goal of the project, which is expected to be completed in the spring of 2013, is to improve the traffic flow in and out of Mount Pleasant, especially before and after school and work hours. The project is funded by the Charleston County Transportation Sales Tax and managed by Charleston County Government, in close coordination with the Town of Mount Pleasant and the S.C. Department of Transportation.
