Town Lobbies for Aerospace Business

Land at Carolina Park eyed for development for aerospace industry.

The sleepy Mount Pleasant Regional Airport is being promoted by town leaders as a good fit for smaller players in the Lowcountry's growing aerospace industry, according to media reports.

A town councilman and a real estate agent told Charleston County Aviation Authority this week that they’d like 200 acres of industrial zoned property in Carolina Park abutting Mount Pleasant Regional Airport to be considered for small companies connected to the aviation industry, the Post and Courier Reported.

Mike White, a commercial broker with CBRE Carmody, and Mount Pleasant Town Councilman Chris O’Neal presented the plan that calls for the property straddling Faison Road to be subdivided, the newspaper reported.

Aside from the Wando-Welch shipping terminal, Mount Pleasant is a municipality with very little industrial business. The town's tax base relies heavily on high-end homes and retail, but town leaders have focused over the last two years on growing light industrial business.
