Mount Pleasant Christmas Parade Set for Dec. 9

More than 100 floats lined up for annual Coleman Boulevard event.

More than 100 floats will march down Coleman Boulevard on Sunday, December 9, as the Mount Pleasant Christmas Light Parade sets sail to the delight of thousands of residents and visitors.

Immediately following the Fireworks and Tree Lighting Ceremony held at Moultrie Middle School at 5:30 PM, the parade will begin at 5:45 PM at the intersection of Coleman and Pelzer Drive. It will continue past Shem Creek and Moultrie Middle School to conclude at the Sea Island Shopping Center around 7:15 PM.

The parade will be led by the Mount Pleasant Fire Department Honor Guard and the Wando High School Band, who won their eighth consecutive State Marching Band Championship this year.

"Mount Pleasant has one of only a few remaining night parades in the state, and our community really does an incredible job of getting everyone into the spirit of the season by creating beautifully designed and wonderfully creative floats," said Special Events Planner Nicole Harvey. "We have some excited newcomers and many old favorites ready to light up Coleman once again this year."

Following holiday etiquette and tradition, Santa will ride on the fire truck at the end of the procession.

Bleachers will be set up near the Farmers Market Pavilion and increased lighting will be placed along the parade route. As in years past, thousands of families are expected to set up impromptu tailgating areas to watch the parade along Coleman Boulevard. We encourage the public to come early, settle in and enjoy the festivities with a warm cup of cocoa.

"The Town of Mount Pleasant and the Community Development and Tourism Office wish to thank the Mayor and Town Council for their support. We would also like to acknowledge all the churches, businesses, schools and organizations that participate in this event each year," said Harvey. “We could not stage such an inspired parade without their creativity and dedication."
