Miss S.C. Heads to Miss America Pageant

Miss South Carolina is a USC law student from Mount Pleasant.

Miss South Carolina Brooke Mosteller headed out Sunday for the five-day Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, N.J.

She is competing against 52 women for the title of Miss America 2014. The winner will be crowned Saturday evening.

Mosteller is a 24-year-old University of South Carolina law student from Mount Pleasant. She hold a bachelor's degree from Furman University where she lettered in tennis and track and field.

The Lowcountry native will sing for the talent portion of the competition. Her platform centers around increasing college applications among high school seniors. Already 38,000 students have applied to college through her "Go Higher College Application Day."

She hopes to implement the program nationally if she's chosen as Miss America.
