Local Business Hosts Art Exhibit

The law firm of Buist, Byars & Taylor, LLC, is hosting an art exhibit featuring local artist Stephen Herchak and College of Charleston student artist, Tommy Fox. The exhibit runs from August 5th through December 5th.

This will be the first art exhibit that Buist, Byars & Taylor has hosted. Managing partner, Gray Taylor said he thought it was a great way for the locally-owned firm to reach out and get involved with the community in a positive way.

“We are excited to be a part of an art exhibit and we hope that it will be the first of many,” Taylor said.

Stephen Herchak is a native Charlestonian and received his degree in Advertising Design. He went on to work in the field of corporate communication for 30 years, 20 of them in Scottsdale, Arizona.

“I returned to Charleston to live by the ocean again and pursue other life-long interests, including art,” Herchak said.

Along with being an artist, Herchak spends his spare time as a tour guide. Starting this fall, he will be an instructor at the Gibbes Museum. Herchak’s media of choice are painting and drawing.

“There are plenty of paint and pastel people out there, but I feel like drawing, particularly color pencil, gets overlooked with many people unaware of its capabilities. Lately that’s been my main medium and focus for instruction.”

Tommy Fox is a senior at the College of Charleston, majoring in art. Painting is his favorite, but he enjoys all media from graphic design to sculpture.

“This was such a cool project because I was able to use so many different painting techniques from painting with brushes to using my fingers,” Fox said. He plans to graduate in May, 2014.
