Police Issue Phone Scam Warning

We at the Mount Pleasant Police Department would like to inform everyone of some recent phone scams that are going around the Charleston area. People are being contacted by scammers claiming that members of their family have been  involved in an accident and that they are hurt, but more importantly they are now being held hostage.  The family member is being held at gunpoint, and you are to then take a sum of money to a specified drop off location, and pay the ransom to release the family member.  If you were to receive this call, please verify if the family member is really in danger, and immediately contact your respective law enforcement agency.  These scammers are playing off of your emotions to get  you to react without thinking.  Please verify all information before acting on it, and contact your local law enforcement agency if you receive any phone calls like this.

Sincerely,
Bryce Gregory
