JoSCh, He isnt OBLIGATED to tell you a damn thing he doesnt WANT to tell. Your getting a littleRead More pushy in your opinions and demands of ppl you dont even know. Thanks for the info Tom.

JoSCh, fact is Tom takes the point and states the obvious, lock your phone with a password, don'tRead More let anyone use it and smartphones are ripe for hacking and also targets for thieves. Solving the issue is easy get rid of the smartphone or even better don't get one. You don't need one, you want one. People should learn wants and needs better. You want Tom to divulge secrets it is NOT a need as you could figure it out yourself if you decided to take some time, but that would involve you being diligent and not expecting something for nothing.

FI (R98, H3464) AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 63-7-730, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATINGRead More TO EXPEDITED PLACEMENT OF A CHILD WITH RELATIVES AT THE PROBABLE CAUSE HEARING, SO AS TO ENCOURAGE PLACEMENT OF A CHILD WITH A GRANDPARENT OR OTHER RELATIVE OF THE FIRST OR SECOND DEGREE UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES; TO SET FORTH CRITERIA FOR THE COURT TO CONSIDER WHEN DECIDING WHETHER TO PLACE A CHILD WITH A GRANDPARENT OR OTHER RELATIVE OF THE FIRST OR SECOND DEGREE AT THE PROBABLE CAUSE HEARING; TO REQUIRE THE COURT TO CONSIDER A PARENT FOR PLACEMENT OF A CHILD AT THE PROBABLE CAUSE HEARING BEFORE CONSIDERING OTHER RELATIVES OF THE FIRST OR SECOND DEGREE IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES; AND TO PROVIDE THAT IF THE COURT PLACES A CHILD WITH A GRANDPARENT OR OTHER RELATIVE OF THE FIRST OR SECOND DEGREE AT THE PROBABLE CAUSE HEARING, THE INDIVIDUAL MAY BE ADDED AS A PARTY TO THE ACTION FOR THE DURATION OF THE CASE OR UNTIL FURTHER ORDER OF THE COURT. http://www.scstatehouse.gov/sess120_2013-2014/bills/3464.htm sad we have to legislate common sense...then parse and play a semantic game with legal terms...

Additional follow up: We are hearing from several other states. Similar legislation passed inRead More Oregon only a day or so after the South Carolina bill became law. Additionally, we have been contacted by state Representatives from Illinois and Tennessee saying they intend to introduce the same. South Carolina is leading the Nation on something good. Ain't it great?

I have also have four children and remember sending all four of them off to camp at different ages.Read More Your blog took me right back to that very moment. As a mother, I can tell you everything you are feeling is normal and also that you will make it through this. My daughter went to camp Crestridge for a two week session and it was so hard to not talk with her but her letters where so encouraging. His will be as well. Thank you for writing from your heart about your family. I have only read two of your blogs and they have both warmed my heart and left a smile on my face. Keep them coming!

I do remember that first time - and it was only OK when they got home, I was bnervous the entireRead More time also. Now I know you will be able to relate to me in about 4 weeks when I send my 18 yearold across the country for her USA trekking adventure in about 3 weeks. My prayer life has all ready increased dramatically!

My mom was VERY focused on making us independent creatures so when I was 5, she packed me off to myRead More grandparents' for 2 weeks. I had a blast (memories still strong 58 years later) and she told me later, it almost killed her. Halfway through the visit, she couldn't stand it any longer and called to say hello. My only comment - "Hi, Mom! Can't talk now. I'm in the basement playing with Jerry's trains! Bye!" She said it was like a knife in her heart. Twenty-six years later, I sent my son to visit his grandparents. I couldn't do anything during those two weeks that I normally shared with my son because it felt like I was leaving him out. I remembered how much fun I'd had, but it didn't change my anxiety. LOL When he returned, I discovered that he'd had so much fun that I doubt he thought about me very often. (Perhaps my "punishment" for that phone call to my mom?) As hard as these situations are, remember that they are helping to teach your child responsible independence. He's learning that he can rely on his own judgement and he's in a situation where, if he fails in that judgement, there's a "soft landing". It's horrible to be away from our children, but the lessons learned will help to make him such a smarter person and you'll be proud that you did it.
reg June 9, 2013 at 11:11 pm
5, did you see the source? Follow the source - it says "The group's political advisor foundRead More some had questionable entries and didn't send them in for processing. When the questionable entries were found, the advisor fired all four after they were on the job for two weeks" In other words , ACORN stopped everything that it legally could to correct the mistakes made by four kids who were supposed to be doing it correctly. But you want to use that example of ACORN doing all it legally could (....if it hadn't turned in others w/o concrete evidence, then *that* would have been a legal violation...) as some 'evidence' to support your argument for voter ID? Continue reading the source, too - it says "students were charged," not acorn. Based on your use of freaky, tabloid sources, and your attempt to malign what actual valid sources say, then I can ASSume that you're an ASSume (as you put it). Oh, and nice try to overlook the other facts about your original fairy-tale posting - and which you blatantly avoided answering to, as well.
Shawn Drury (Editor) June 10, 2013 at 12:32 am
Gentlemen, This bill has NOTHING to do with voter fraud, voter ID or any such thing. The bill isRead More meant to remedy the circumstances that caused hundreds of candidates from the ballots last year. Sure wish they would listen to your ideas, it might put some creditability back into politics. I amRead More tired of the same-o same-o when it comes to politicians. If people where given more of a choice there would be a lot of surprised politicians And shame on the media for only giving attention to the 2 parties, it only makes things worse.
stanley seigler June 9, 2013 at 11:18 am
all the good, common sense, advice is predicated on a person being in the financial position to takeRead More the common sense tact...however; as pointed out, '...most people get themselves into such financial hardships that the $200.00 monthly savings blinds them to long term stability' not sure it 'blinds them' or they have no choice...eg, been there (2006-08)...refi avoided short term hardships and improved long term financial stability... did/do not have a financial advisor but bet one would have advised the route i took...

Thanks for your astute reply to the original blog. Remember the words of the wise old man: FiguresRead More lie, and liars figure.

There is an important caveat to refi not mentioned in the article. Unless you have an FHA mort whichRead More qualifies under recent legislation for a no-fee, no appraissal, refinance, there are typically fees involved. They can be substantial, and they will probably be rolled into your principal, unless you are prepared to pay up front. You could still save on monthly payments if you are refinancing the last 20 years of your mortgage into a 30 year new mortgage, but you should be very careful of how much these fees are, and how many more years of payments you will have. Just make sure you are aware.

Every time I do this in a Patch comment, I am aware it is grammatically questionable, but I think itRead More conveys that comic trope 'And another thing!' spoken after a pause in a litany of points. But, I still remember it as a violation. And I feel guilty. But I do it anyway.

Do you seriously believe that Stanley? Most of my friends in Canada will tell you that their systemRead More SUCKS and that if they can't pay out of pocket to get into the doctor of their choice (vs. the "free" clinics), they're pretty much screwed. Perhaps you should look into how socialized medicine "works". And for the record, I have multiple medical professionals in my family who are extremely concerned w/BO-Care and the ramifications for our country's health care system. Not saying they're overwhelmingly in support of the status quo, but this new "plan" isn't what we need.
stanley seigler May 29, 2013 at 02:32 pm
@Jason re: my friends in Canada will tell you that their system SUCKS and the world healthRead More organization (WHO) tell you: canada ranks 30th in quality and 10th in cost USA ranks 38th in quality and 1ST in cost WHO say most all countries with universal (socialized) health care rank above USA in quality and USA is NO 1 in cost http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Health_Organization_ranking_of_health_systems seriouly now, who yo gonna believe your friends (3-4) in canada or WHO...personally i'll take WHO... re: are extremely concerned w/BO-Care who you gonna believe 'multiple medical professionals in yo family'...or stats david keely spells out in his article (above)...i'll take keely's stats over 'multiple (2-3) medical professionals in yo family' stats... anecdotes are nice but a country cant make policy based on them... ohand your specious arguments are based on GOP mis-informed 'talking points'...you should fact check them...
Denise May 19, 2013 at 05:27 pm
I haven't checked in on this and don't feel like reading all the comments since my last post. TheRead More one who resigned over it was a Bush appointee. And the article headline is STUPID because the IRS does not HAVE political opponents. It is the IRS.
Robert Kelly May 20, 2013 at 01:20 pm
ANY group involved in politics who files for a tax exempt status should be given scrutiny! The factRead More that the head of the agency was a Bush appointee, as was his predecessor, and that the supervisor of the agents involved had actually told them to stop (which they did for a while, but only temporarily) should pretty much negate the GOP claims that this was partisan and connected to the White House. Senator McConnell wants jail time! Is jail time normally the outcome when people do their job extra-carefully? What laws were broken? Some people are audited while others are not, does this mean agents should go to jail? Extra scrutiny is not exactly the same as fraud and obstruction. How about jail time for the congressional partisans who are intentionally wasting time on absurdity (votes on ACA, meaningless Ben Ghazi hearings, etc.) when they are in the employ of the American people who expect them to actually do their job to make government function?
Jonathan Allen (Editor) May 21, 2013 at 05:31 pm
At least phonograf spelled my name correctly. And to Dr. John, what part of "I'm not defendingRead More the IRS or excusing the behavior" do you take as an endorsement of that behavior? I have no idea why you brought the NRA into the discussion in the first place, as this was about the IRS. Nowhere have I offered support for coercion. As for the DOJ's interest in AP employee phone records, I am against that as well, but unlike in many states there is no Federal Shield law for journalists (the blame for that can be spread across both parties in Congress). Protecting the identity of anonymous sources requires effort on the part of both the source and the journalist, and while I'm not exactly happy that Justice went out and collected those records I'm not surprised by it either. The Obama Administration has been cracking down harder on whistle-blowers that any previous administrations, this, as unsavory as it is, is neither illegal under current laws nor unexpected.

Richard, I support just about everything you spoke for in this. Still, the most important element isRead More NOT to rein in the deficit, it is to encourage the economy to pick up moment. Yes, I still agree with you that ECB is way more likely to do that than Sanford's penny-pinching approach. We all learned (or should have learned) from the Clinton administration that if you build an economy, which involves spending money, the deficit will take care of itself with more tax-paying people working and buying the staples of our economy. Focusing on cutting the deficit by reducing spending in a recession exacerbates the problem by putting more people out of work, and therefore weakening the government's ability to deal with the situation. Support education! Support positive government expenditures on improvements to infrastructure (Ravenel Bridge, Harbor improvements)! Don't focus on the deficit in times of recession, take care of business, then when we have stability, take care of long term financial planning. Thanks for a good blog. I hope you have had an impact.

One of the reporters for The Patch told me at The Victory Office personally that he wouldn't beRead More printing anything personal about Busch or Sanford. He knew that everything had already been printed and spoken about Sanford. So that meant that it would be out there. He knew there were things about Busch that hadn't been widely published or said. I don't have any confidence in The Patch. The Patch should have just come out and endorsed Busch.

Richard: I appreciate your comments and your good work. My family is in Charleston and we all hadRead More high---though, admittedly, cautious---hopes that Elizabeth could win and provide us with real representation in Washington. It was going to be uphill no matter her opponent and, while a couple of national commentators have tonight opined that she might not have been a strong candidate, I disagree. I hope she remains active in the political arena---a strong, proven, successful businesswoman who refuses to let ideological concerns blind her to the real issues in the 1st District and has the experience to speak to those issues. There will come a time when the GOP can no longer blind 1st District voters to the reality of what GOP economic policies are doing to the middle- and working-classes both nationwide and in the district. We need strong Democrats to be available when that time comes. Elizabeth made me proud to be a Democrat. I have good Republican friends who are more than willing to say that he made them ashamed to be Republicans.

Tired of reading negative comments about conservatives and their hypocrisy on family values andRead More responsibility but not tired of writing negative comments about family values and responsibility? Totally awesome!

Sorry guys, tired of playing. I was just refering to all of the posts, a lot of which seemed to beRead More from folks that don't even live in SC. I read a lot of the posts on the Patch and I can't help but wonder if a lot of people commenting with such personal comments might have been picked on or bulied as kids or in high school and now they feel as though they are getting even, behind their computer and keyboard. Maybe I'm wrong, wouldn't be the first time. But, some folks on here (patch) just seem to be a little, off, politics aside.
