U.S. News: Wando Ranks No. 15 in State for Academics

North Charleston magnet school ranked No. 10 in the nation.

Wando High School is South Carolina's 15th highest-performing high school in state, according to new 2013 rankings released today by U.S. News & World Report.

U.S. News analyzed data from more than 21,000 public high schools to calculate the 2013 Best High Schools rankings. The magazine examined how students ranked compared academically to their peers within the state.

It also accounted for economically disadvantaged students and awarded additional weight for high-performing students who come from such backgrounds. The rankings also award points based on how well-prepared students are for college by looking at test scores.

Academic Magnet High School and Charleston County School of the Arts, two North Charleston magnet schools, rank No. 1 and No. 2 in the state listing. Academic Magnet lands in the Top 10 national rankings. Unlike Wando, those schools draw students from throughout the county.

The U.S. News high school rankings examine more than 21,000 high schools from 49 states and the District of Columbia.
