Town Councilman Charged With DUI
Mount Pleasant Police charged Town Council member John Burn with DUI following a collision on Coleman Boulevard Saturday night
Mount Pleasant Town Council member John Burn was charged with DUI Saturday night following a collision with a car stopped at a traffic light on Coleman Boulevard, according to a police statement.
Around 9:35 p.m. Saturday Mount Pleasant Police responded to a two-vehicle collision at Coleman Boulevard and Fairmont Drive. Upon investigation the officer determined that the vehicle driven by Burn ran into the back of the other vehicle while it was stopped at a traffic signal. The officer reported smelling alcohol on Burn's breath, and reported that Burn admitted to having "a few drinks" at a function at Alhambra Hall earlier in the evening.
The officer performed field sobriety tests on Burn and noted multiple instances of him failing the tests. Burn refused to submit to a breathalyzer and was charged with DUI, according to the statement. He was released Sunday on a personal recognizance bond, and his court date was set for 8:30 a.m., April 3.
