Skate Park Proposed on Shem Creek

Owners of Odyssey Board Shop plan park on Lucas Street.

Mount Pleasant Town Council has given tentative approval to plans to bring a skate park to a vacant lot on Lucas Street near the intersection of Coleman Boulevard and Mill Street.

Owners of Odyssey Board Shop have filed paperwork with the town to rezone the land for the proposed skate park. The council will give the proposal a final vote Tuesday evening.

Located between Scott and Lucas Streets, across the street from the board shop, the privately owned park would be the first of its kind east of the Cooper. The land will also be used for rowing classes associated with a nearby outdoors business.

The town's planning commission approved the project at its November 14 meeting. The town's planning committee also signed off the project last week. The council will vote on the proposal Tuesday night. There's no word on when the park would open.
