School Rezoning Postponed to 2015

Original plan stoked criticism.

Mount Pleasant public school students won't have to endure school rezoning until 2015, according to media reports.

The District 2 (East Cooper) constituent school board unanimously agreed Wednesday night to delay any changes to schools’ attendance lines until that time. The board also signed off on a new plan that will redraw those lines to alleviate overcrowded schools, and that will go into effect for the 2015-16 school year, the Post and Courier reported.

School officials faced a wave of crticism after proposing new zoning maps that were meant to deal with overcrowding in some schools and underutilizing at other campuses. See the rezoning maps.
