Scholars, Diplomat, Photographer Speaking at Citadel

Speaker schedule through November includes nationally notable figures.

This fall, the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Citadel will offer an array of community lecture opportunities and book signings featuring speakers considered national and international experts in their fields. All lectures and book signing events are free and open to the public. Each event begins at 6:30 p.m. in Bond Hall Room 165.

Sept. 6 - John Shelton Reed Lecture and Book Signing
Reed is a former Mark W. Clark Visiting Professor of History and is widely recognized as the leading authority on what constitutes modern Southern identity. He will discuss his forthcoming book “Dixie Bohemia: A French Quarter Circle in the 1920s, “ which introduces readers to a young William Faulkner and his circle of friend living and partying in New Orleans’ French Quarter in the Jazz Age after World War I.

Oct. 18 - Stacy Pearsall Lecture and Book Signing
Pearsall is a former Air Force combat photographer at the age of 17 and one of only two women to win the NPPA Military Photographer of the Year competition, and the only woman to have won it twice. An Iraq veteran, Pearsall has been published in various national and international media as well as documentaries and is the owner of the Charleston Center for Photography, a photographic education center and studio rental source in Charleston, S.C.

Oct. 25 - Patrick Duddy Lecture
Duddy is the U.S. Department of State Diplomat in Residence at the Duke University Center of International Studies. He is the former ambassador to Venezuela and deputy assistant secretary of state of the Western hemisphere. Duddy has served as U.S. head of delegation to international conference on counter-narcotics, energy and assistance for Haiti.

Nov. 8 - Randy Deitering Lecture
Deitering has more than three decades of experience as a U.S. national security and intelligence professional, including the 15 consecutive years on the White House Staff. He served with the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board during the Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush administrations. Before his service at the White House, Deitering spent more than a decade at the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as an analyst and operations officer.
