Rep. Scott, Gov. Haley Dubbed Rising Political Stars
Newsweek names Congressman Tim Scott and Gov. Nikki Haley among the rising stars of 2012.
Rep. Tim Scott, S.C.-District 1, and S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley joined the ranks of Elizabeth Warren, Rahm Emmanuel, Jon Huntsman, Chris Christie and Paul Ryan as Newsweek's Rising Political Stars of 2012.
Scott catapulted onto the national scene earlier this year during the debt ceiling debate that had everyone holding their breath this summer — partly because of his hold out with fellow S.C. freshmen representatives over the deal and partly because of his rhetoric calling to impeach the President.
Here's an excerpt of what Newsweek wrote about Scott:
The South Carolina representative was anointed a star upon his election, when he became one of the first two black Republicans in Congress since 2003 ... Though he’s still a freshman, he’s already being talked about as a potential future governor or senator.
Haley made it big on the national scene this year with her public fights with the White House and the National Labor Relations Board. Though she has tried to quiet vice presidential aspirations in 2012, even Newsweek speculated she might get a nod as the campaigns continue.

Nikki Haley swept into the South Carolina governor’s mansion in 2010, defeating a more moderate — and better established — primary opponent along the way ... Her endorsement has been one of the most highly sought by Republican candidates for 2012.

Wait, let me get this right. Tim Scott is a rising political star of 2012 partly because he was willing to allow the United States to default on its debt (a breach of the U.S. Constitution, by the way) and partly because of his "rhetoric" calling for the impeachment of President Obama? Is this a joke? If not, the powers-that-be at Newsweek desperately need to seek the return of Jon Meacham and their editorial sanity. The brinksmanship game played by fools such as Tim Scott per debt default created such uncertainty in world lending markets that one of our primary lenders considered raising the interest rate we pay by 1%. Such an increase would have occasioned an increase in debt service that, over a ten-year period, would have equalled more than the ten-year budget cuts originally agreed to by Obama/Boehner. To imagine that such irresponsible rabble-rousing is rewarded by recognition as a "rising political star" is, to me, unimaginable. And Scott's "impeachable act" nonsense per the president is nothing more than play-to-the-base demagoguery. Yet, such is the America of our time that such talk---in the end, of course, occasioning nothing positive---elicits, I suppose, accolades and brands as a "rising star" an irresponsible political wannabe who, in actuality, has nothing to show either for his rhetoric or his brief time in Congress.

I agree with mr. Inman ,they don't pay attention to our states news before they select someone , because if they did they would see that both of these individuals are failures in this state , and both have done a terrible job . I guess they will be disappointed when they don't see there stars in the sky after the next election . Bennett
