Poll: Cruises in Mount Pleasant?
Two years on, Charleston still divided on the business, but is there support for cruises here?
People are still divided, two years on, over whether Charleston's 2-year-old, year-round cruise industry is good or bad for the community.
Ultimately the courts may decide the issue, and that leads some folks — albeit in unofficial circles — to ask whether a cruise passenger terminal on the Mount Pleasant side of the river makes sense.
Just to be clear, the South Carolina Ports Authority and the City of Charleston are fighting tooth and nail to keep the proposed $35 million terminal on the Peninsula, despite a public uproar over the project.
So here's the question: Would you support a cruise passenger terminal in Mount Pleasant?

No...no infrastructure, roads, pier, channel, etc.

I'd support this on a limited basis, say with space for only one ship moored at a time. The best place from an infrastructure standpoint is the SPA terminal; a deep channel with easy airport/freeway access. Can the environment support expanding the pier on either the north or south end? Is the land too valuable for it's potential as expansion to the current commercial shipping space? Are the security concerns too great? I think yes, no, and no. There is plenty of underused land around there that could support a parking garage and welcome center, and then shuttle to the pier/brow for debarkation.
