Patriots Point Plans Friday Flag Day Ceremony

Knights of Columbus and Boy Scouts to participate in 9 a.m. event.

On Friday, June 14, Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum will host a ceremony to commemorate Flag Day featuring participants of the Knights of Columbus and Boy Scouts.  It is free and open to the public and will begin at 9 a.m. on the Flight Deck of the USS Yorktown.

As part of the program, Knights in regalia will present the Colors and raise the flag.  With the assistance of the Boy Scouts, the flag will be symbolically retired while a detailed history of the symbolism of each fold is shared. The ceremony will also recognize the veterans who fought for, defended and continue to salute our nation’s flag.

“The American Flag is one of our nation’s most treasured icons. It is a symbol of freedom and a source of pride, unity and strength during troubled times,” said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette.  “Our Flag Day program honors all that the Stars and Stripes represent, as well as the brave men and women who fought for and died in its defense.”
