Park West, Long Point Getting Overhauls

Town approves nearly $2 million in roadwork for busy Mount Pleasant roads.

A $1 million roundabout at the intersection of Long Point Road and Needlebrush Parkway will be in place by the end of August, according to town leaders who voted to award a contract for the project this week.

Town council also voted to move forward with $757,000 in resurfacing work on Park West Boulevard, a stretch of road that is scarred with potholes and cracks.

The roundabout, which is meant to ease congestion on one of the town's most crowded roads, will begin construction once Charleston County Public Schools go on break and will be complete within 110 days, according to the contract.

There was no deadline discussed for the Park West work. A town council committee voted to move forward with the projects on Monday. The contracts will get a full council vote next week.

The two projects, unlike a slew of other unfunded roadway repair work in Mount Pleasant, has been funded in this and next year's budget, according to town CFO Charlie Potts. Mount Pleasant set aside $3 million for the roadway work in previous budgets.
