Officer Resigned Amid Internal Probe

Mount Pleasant police lieutenant had squabble with resident.

A Mount Pleasant police lieutenant resigned in September amid a probe of a testy phone exchange with a resident, according to reports.

Lt. Ben Marlow was a 18-year police veteran with a distinguished record, but over the summer he apparently had a nasty phone exchange with a resident over a traffic diversion relating to a sewage spill, according to the Post and Courier.

The resident complained about Marlow's attitude, and the officer made his own complaint with the resident's employer. He went so far as to turn over a recording of the call, which apparently violated department policy.

There are no criminal charges stemming from the incident, according to the newspaper. Marlow is the second police commander to resign in recent months. Maj. Frank Riccio, the department's No. 2 commander, resigned in March 2012 after a DUI arrest.
