Haley faces re-election in 2014. Her Democratic opponent from 2010, state Sen. Vincent Shaheen, has already declared his intentions to run again. Haley, a Republican who represented Lexington County in the S.C. House before being elected Governor, has struggled in the polls, but her re-election prospects have risen lately.

The latest Winthrop University poll found Haley's approval rating at 45 percent. The state's improving employment situation, a continual sticking point, has improved in recent months, which could bolster Haley's re-election chances.
