Nikki Haley Speaks in Mount Pleasant Monday

Governor is guest at East Cooper GOP Club meeting.

South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley will visit Mount Pleasant on Monday to speak to East Cooper Republicans.

The lunchtime meeting is set for the Holiday Inn at 250 Johnnie Dodds Blvd. Attendees are encouraged to arrive at 11:30 a.m. Gov. Haley speaks at noon. The meeting is $15 for members and $20 for non-members.

Haley faces re-election in 2014. Her Democratic opponent from 2010, state Sen. Vincent Shaheen, has already declared his intentions to run again. Haley, a Republican who represented Lexington County in the S.C. House before being elected Governor, has struggled in the polls, but her re-election prospects have risen lately.

The latest Winthrop University poll found Haley's approval rating at 45 percent. The state's improving employment situation, a continual sticking point, has improved in recent months, which could bolster Haley's re-election chances.
