Looking for a Refund from Comcast?

Opinions vary, but you'll have to ask.

Much of Charleston went without digital cable, Internet and phone service Wednesday after a Comcast fiber optic line was cut.

Service was out from roughly 1 p.m. until 10 p.m., and plenty of folks want to know if Comcast will grant refunds in light of the outage. Here's the answer: Maybe, but you will have to ask.

On Twitter, a Comcast representative said customers should email to request refunds. @ComcastMichael: "email us your account info at comcastcares_support@comcast.com and we'll review with local leadership."

Comcast outages are common across the country, and in most other instances, the company has told customers to email or call (1-800-COMCAST) for refunds. The requests are reviewed individually, and the company does not automatically grant mass refunds for entire service areas.

And Comcast typically only refunds customers for the amount of service that was lost. So for Charleston customers, that was roughly 9 hours. So if your Comcast bill is $150 a month, that translates to $1.80. If the company refunds customers for the entire day, that's about $4.80.
