Men stand next to a giant alligator found dead at Lake Moultrie recently.

A photo of a huge alligator is making the rounds on Facebook and stirring all sorts of fears about what might be lurking in local waters. Reports suggest the gator, found on the shores of Lake Moultrie in Pinopolis, S.C., is estimated to weigh 800 pounds and measure 12 feet in length. It could have been 50 to 60 years old.

It is a big gator to be sure but the pict has a perspective trick to it. The gator is closer to the camera than the guys standing "next to it" you can see the are standing next to the stabiliser of the backhoe, while the arm of the backhoe is extended toward the camera. But 800 lbs isn't a small gator either =)
