Coroner: Bridge Jumper Was A Nigerian Medical Resident

Identification concludes two-week search for Olutosin "Tosin" Oyelowo.

The Charleston County Coroner confirms that a female body discovered Wednesday afternoon on Sullivan's Island is that of missing MUSC resident Olutosin "Tosin" Oyelowo.

Police had reported that Oyelowo, 25, was seen jumping from the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge on Dec. 9. Her wallet and identification were found along the bridge and her car was parked within walking distance.

A Nigerian national whose family immigrated to North Carolina, Oyelowo's disappearance sparked international interest as about her whereabouts.

The coroner was able to positively identify the remains Friday with the help of dental records, said Deputy Coroner Kimberly Rhoton. She died as a result of the fall from the bridge, she said.

Oyelowo's family was informed of the identification, Rhoton said.

Though Charleston police said onlookers identified Oyelowo as the jumper, police could not confirm her identity until a body was recovered.

"We continue to covet your prayers and support for the family at this time," the post read on Patch.

The body was found Wednesday afternoon on a Sullivan's island sand bar, roughly six miles by water from the Ravenel Bridge, Rhoton said.
