Belk Starts Work on Expansion

Men's store is first phase of large-scale expansion.

Belk has started work on the first phase its large-scale expansion at Mount Pleasant Towne Centre. Workers have gutted a building that will house the department store's men's department.

That space formerly housed Guy Harvey Restaurant, the Sprint store and Hershon Orthodontics. Guy Harvey closed in July 2011 and the other stores have relocated to make way for Belk.

In Spring 2014 Belk will add a parking deck and additional square footage to its north in the area where Palmetto Moon is currently located. The Charlotte-based retailer recently celebrated its 125th anniversary.
