Baker Relocates Cadillac Dealership

Showroom shuttered as Baker combines three GM brands under one roof in West Ashley.

The Cadillac dealership on Johnnie Dodds Boulevard has closed and has relocated to a new building in West Ashley.

Owner Tommy Baker completed the purchase of Sentry Buick GMC Tuesday and has relocated all the brands — GMC, Buick and Cadillac — to one building at 1621 Savannah Highway.

“Combining the Buick GMC and Cadillac franchises together make a powerful combination,” Baker said in a news release. “Having three out of the four GM franchises under one roof is a great opportunity for Baker Motor Company."

Baker acquired Miller Cadillac in Mount Pleasant late in 2011 and gave the facility its new name. But as of Tuesday afternoon, it is no longer open for business, according to Emily Trogdon, a spokeswoman for Baker.

The new combined Baker Buick GMC Cadillac dealership is located a quarter mile from Baker's luxury dealerships on West Ashley's auto mile.

Baker also operates a pre-owned luxury vehicle dealership in Mount Pleasant.

Baker’s Buick GMC purchase includes the six acres of real estate and the current 63,000 square foot facility on Savannah Highway. Baker plans a massive overhaul of the West Ashley dealership, which will include the addition of a new 10,000-square-foot Cadillac showroom.

Combining the GM brands under one roof represents a trend in the domestic auto industry to reduce competition among dealers by closing and combining franchises.

"GM is now the number one automotive selling brand in the world and their future product is phenomenal," Baker said. "They’ve prepared themselves to succeed in the long-run."
