Acclaimed Restaurant Named in Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Suit: Husk assistant manager drank before causing deadly accident.

The nationally recognized downtown Charleston restaurant, Husk, allowed its manager to drink to excess just hours before he went on to cause , according to a recently filed lawsuit.

Quentin Gregory Miller of Mount Pleasant died in the when Husk assistant manager Adam Joseph Burnell rammed Miller’s vehicle from behind, according to the lawsuit. The collision sent Miller’s sports car into the guardrail where it caught on fire.

“The decedent was trapped inside the vehicle and unable to free himself, which ultimately resulted in decedent suffering an excruciating death,” the lawsuit alleges.

Miller, who was a bartender at a downtown Charleston restaurant, was headed to his home in Mount Pleasant when the crash occurred.

The suit labels Husk as “grossly negligent” for allowing Burnell to drink to excess and then drive home after the restaurant was closed for the evening. The crash occurred around 4 a.m.

Burnell faces felony DUI charges for the crash. He’s free on a $53,000 bond, according to court records.

It also was named “Best New Restaurant in the South” by Southern Living magazine.

In a statement to the Post and Courier, the restaurant declined to comment on the matter specifically, but it sent condolences to Miller’s family.
